exactly - there's not much adventure in the perfect lens, but it does have its place....

DUH...I just realized it's an AF lens! Such a small part of my lens stable, I forget about them at times. Have you tried different options for how many focus points the camera is using? It might pick out that infinity distance better with a particular choice, but not with the other options.

Or it could be a Stigma! Sad if that is the case.

Snowy perspectives

Couple shots of our snowy country home site today, 1/8/18.

KIT: Pentax 645Z with (adapted) Pentax 67 120mm f 3.5 soft focus, but at f 11.0 so that the soft focus effect is not used.
