Originally posted by KC0PET Interesting discussion. Prompted by Dave's recent Mamiya Sekor lens, I started watching the Mamiya Sekor listings, mainly looking at the M42 lenses. My first 35mm film SLR was a Mamiya Sekor, I believe a 500 TL and it had a nice 55mm lens on it and wondered about getting a similar lens. Of course I am seeing all sorts of other mounts "C", "Z", "E", Press Super 23, etc. I have been surprised at how high the M42 lenses sell for but also how reasonable some of the medium format lenses are. I was wondering which could be adapted.
I have begun collecting the C lenses, which can be adapted to Pentax K-mount. The C lenses are medium format, but cannot be adapted to Pentax 645/N/D/Z because of incompatible registry distances. The C's are well-made manual lenses, including the famous 80mm f 1.9, fastest medium lens known ever to have been produced, equivalent in focal plane and bokeh performance to about an f 0.8 in 135 mm/K mount format. I also have the 45mm f 2.8, 80mm f 4.0 macro, 150mm f 3.5, 210mm f 4.0, and 300mm f 5.6. These are all great performers, and are today available at bargain prices. About half of them are self-hooding with well-constructed sliding or pull-out hoods. I am still very much in the testing stage of use with these lenses, and will make only the general assessment that they are extremely well-built lenses which offer credible and economical alternatives to K-mount lenses. The 80/1.9 is a special case, of course, and worth having just so you can say you have and are using one of the fastest lenses ever built. All are worth having if you appreciate fantastic metal build quality as they offer fantastic tactile handling and appearance. I have not been able to locate much in the way of lens reviews, so have not been able to gain much in the way of outside assessment.
