Here's a color version of a previously posted image. From Dec. 2017 with the S-M-C Tak 20.4.5 on *ist D. As a bonus, some pentagonal (is that a word?) flare included.

Quick lens comparison - K3 and HD DA 35mm f2.8 Macro, HD DA 40mm f2.8 and K 50mm F4 Macro, all at f8 on tripod, and processed in camera RAW at same settings. At these settings I prefer the control of highlights by the 40mm followed by the 35mm, then the 50mm, but prefer the FOV of the 50mm over the other 2 for this sort of picture. To get better highlight control the final shot is with the K 50mm, underexposed by 1.5 stops. Still not as competent as the HD Ltds, though. I am not sure I should be thankful that Pentax do not make a HD DA Ltd 50mm Macro, as I would definitely want one, and funds would need to be found, or long for such a beast to come along!
Interesting though that the lens itself also has an effect on such things as highlights.

I actually like the 35mm f2.8 macro the best out of those 3. I have the 40mm f/2.8 XC pancake also, and that is great image, I just prefer the 35mm a bit more. Nice comparo--well done
