For the price, size, built, and especially IQ, either the HD DA 35mm Macro Ltd or the HD DA 40mm Ltd makes a terrific Pentax DSLR companion! I couldn’t choose, so got both. Since then, I have really neglected my pricier 31mm ; ( The HD DA 21mm Ltd is also great, but more specialized.

Alternatively, and I can’t stress that enough, the HD DA 20-40mm Ltd may be the only “Bag of primes” that you’ll ever need: a zoom that makes each image pop at any focal length; that, in action and results, almost feels as if carrying a prime lens. As a bonus, it’s also small, sturdy, and weather-sealed ; )

thank you - you've responded to a question that was posed over 5 years and over 11,000 posts ago....

since that first post - I bought a copy of the 35 Macro Limited and the 40 Limited, and love them both....

the 20-40mm Limited zoom really isn't my cuppa, however, since it's a zoom...

I have also ended up with the 35Limited and the 40 Limited. Both are superb lenses, and probably I can dispose of my DA35mm (if I could convince myself). I am now trying the 35 Limited on my Sony A6000 as a manual macro.

My favourite zoom that has saved me getting the 20-40mm limited is the Sigma EX DC 17-50mm f2.8. I know the "farm" has been very complimentary of the EX primes, and I am similarly convinced by the zooms as well..
