so, the common toad shot got explored on flickr...

I think I'm going to sell my Vivitar 24mm and buy a DA21, but I'm also going to buy a fun lens - probably a Tamron 55BB; I've always had an itch for a mirror lens....

in the quickly-fading light last night, I mounted the A400 on my tripod:

Congratulations, I never had anything explored.

Which Vivitar 24mm do you have?

This is the K 24 2.8:

thank you....

neither had I until about a few weeks ago, then all of a sudden, I've had two images get picked...

I have a Vivitar 24mm f2.8 of undetermined lineage... I have pics of it in my flickr albums (but I don't have access to them at the moment)... it's a nice lens and does take rich, colorful shots, but is really prone to flare and loss of contrast with stray/strong light sources....

I've been noticing an interesting trend for myself: a lack of interest in zoom lenses..... not that they don't have any use for me, not at all...

I love the three zooms I have: DA10-17, DA18-135, and DA L55-300... but as far as on-the-hunt action, I don't even consider them...

I've also noticed that my prime range is filling in: my next purchase (next week) will be a copy of the DA21... and I can't think of another focal length that I truly am interested in after that....

current range for me is 21 24 28 35 40 50 55 90 200 300 400 500mm.... I know there is a gap between 90 and 200mm, but I don't care for shooting that FL, to be honest... and two of my zooms cover it pretty well anyways...

anybody else care to share how their lens range strategy has changed over time?

Nice, that Cosina/Vivitar is a good lens And the loss of contrast can be easily dealt with in PP. I had my eyes on one but they seem to not be as common as they were a couple years ago. Now I have the K24 otherwise I'd find a way to get your Vivi ...

Regarding lens strategy... mine is to get the best lens possible with the amount of money I have available... which isn't all that much

Up to now, I think i've been cluelessly learning the ropes. My "plan" for the future is to get nice DFA* primes. I'm in no hurry. I think I'll start my K-1 set with the DA35 2,4 and my A50 1,7. I am still debatting with myself if I get a DFA 100 or if I wait and see the large aperture medium tele on the roadmap. According to that survey that circulated around I think there is a small hope for a 135 f2 or faster.
Basically I want a few good primes. Not that I need them but I love good things. I am happy optically with the 35 but would not have hesitated one second to pay more AW and quick shift. The only lens I regret buying is the 55-300. My hand is to unsteady or it isnt sharp enough.
I love the pictures you guys get out of those oldies. I do not have the patience to shop around nor probably the talent. Modern tech helps me a lot

I tend to prefer primes as well - I appreciate a small and light package while out shooting. I have a couple walkaround AF zooms, but I use them more for the convenience factor, such as while walking the dogs or family outings. I had a Sigma 17-70, which was a really good zoom with excellent IQ. But I always seemed to leave it at home, not wanting to tote the thing around all day (and it's not all that heavy). I think the DA21 would be a good choice for me as well. The DA15 is fantastic, but the trademark starbursts are becoming a bit cliche, for me anyway. The 21 would be a more practical choice for my way of shooting. I have a copy of the Vivitar 19mm/3.8 (Cosina), and while I love the FL, it's also very prone to flare if the sun is anywhere in the frame. I think my next wide prime could end up being the DA21 or maybe a Takumar 20mm.

I have always leaned towards zooms because I'm lazy . I force myself to use primes on occasion. For walking around and casual shooting you can not beat a small prime. When I looked into my history with the DA*16-50 I found 75% of my shots were between 16-24mm. I decided to look for DA 21. It is much cheaper than the DA15 and easier to get. It is an often overlooked focal lenghth. On a crop sensor I find it to be pretty ideal. Your essentially shooting with a mid wide angle on FF. Back when I shot film I found I either wanted around 24-28mm or 70-90mm. I shot with a 24-80 zoom for a long time which essentially is what my 16-50 is on a crop sensor. That 16-50 is my most used lens. I essentially got the DA21 for night shots since it is easier to stabilize on a tripod.

DA21 f8 30 second exposure.

so, this week, we should be seeing the arrival of the opposite ends of the spectrum; the Alpha and Omega of my primes:

Tamron 55BB (500mm and another Adaptall 2 adapter) and a DA21 Limited.... good thing I bought a new box of cookies....
