When I went to Yellowstone I borrowed a Nikon 200-400 f4 lens from a friend who told me that i should just use a wide angle lens (he tries very hard to sound like a jerk but he is there for you when you need him). I used that lens shooting a grizzly but then 8 also took a shoot with my wife's Sigma 10-20 at 10 mm on my Kr and sent him a copy. He did not even know there was a bear in the image until I mentioned it. Your deer was a much better subject for ultra wide than that bear. ☺
And of course there is the idea that getting close to a deer is a little less hazardous than trying to get close to a grizzly

One of the restored older homes in the historical district of town. A lot of these have been converted into B&Bs. A35/2.8 on K100D:

We're not that far from you here in DFW. We hit 81 yesterday...today, windy and 56.

Image 28/2.8 on *ist D, using a Tri-X emulation. I like this old combo as a light walkaround kit:
I see someone is selling a *istDS for $50 on the forums. Goodness for less than 100 bucks someone could have a good starter DSLR setup with one of those 28s and a nifty 50 along with the body.

That's pretty much what I did when starting out, although I paid a bit more back in 2010. I still own my original D (fitted for fulltime m42 duty), then I picked up another one a couple years ago for $40, with less than 1k shots on it The DS in the Marketplace is a nice deal with the extras and very low shutter count. They are simple, fun and capable little cameras .

I bet it is. I really like these older style homes with the big front porches (as opposed to the "giraffe barns" that seem to dominate the new home landscape).

Isn't Margeaux a deep red wine from France?
If so then the affinity to the color red is well deserved. Sorry I couldn't score one of those when you did. Very nice images.
