Happy 4th, everyone! Jeannie on the trails recently. The paved walkways have been built over the last couple years and are very nice (with more coming!). A35/2.8 on *ist D:

Interesting. The coating reflections and the build on that Spiratone lens are very Tokina-like, but I'm not aware that Tokina ever did a 28mm f2 lens.

all of that, plus the sheer size of it (62mm filter ring) place it firmly in the '???' category... I know that Mitake was a lens manufacturer and Spiratone did nothing but rebadges....

additionally, from this morning:

you can see where the coatings are nowhere near modern lens' coatings - CA abound, especially magenta striping due to the strong light source (natural light)

but....

move away from that type of light:

both shot at f2

If I had any doubt that the M 50 f4 Macro can do beautiful renderings...

And oh yes it does the macro thing too... but I think I want a 100mm macro next, as the 50mm scares the critters a bit too easily.

excellent work - the 35 and 50mm macros will always have an issue with closeness for insects, etc.... I love my Tamron 90mm macro for that kind of work....

I suppose that anything would work in the 90+mm range from the Tamron/Sigma/Tokina(expensive!) 90mm macro, to the Pentax 100 2.8 versions (I think the old FAs might be somewhat affordable) to the Sigma 105 2.8 (I've seen them go for under $200 but that's still a bit pricey).

At some point I'll get one... but I think I'll first try to sell my Tokina 19-35 and one or two more lenses and try to get my hands on a DA 21 again (unless I win a K-1 of course... then I'll need that 19-35!)

working with the Spiratone 28/2 at noon/harsh daylight:

shooting with a hood, mindful of the light, and careful post-processing.... not bad...

K-3 with D FA 50 f/2.8 Macro. This is the northern terminus of the Ozark Trail, near Onondaga Cave State Park. Very unassuming and actually kind of hard to find. The Ozark Trail currently has about 400 miles of trail. I have had a plan for several years to hike the main trunk of the trail over a several year period. Perhaps 2018 will be the year to get started...
