Thanks - wish I could compare them... but I do not have the 70mm

This EX 105/2.8 is a beast... I only shoot it wide open. It can get sharp wide open (the examples above are a bit shaky due to wind and keeping an eye on a 2 year-old while taking the shot).

I have the sigma 50/2.8 macro (non-EX / non-DG) - that one is 1:1 as well, a good comparison to the A 50/2.8 Macro which is 1:2 (the A sharper, but they can compare)

70mm to 85mm is the gap in focal distances I've been meaning to fulfill for a while now...

I am interested in the 105mm macro; I have the 70mm macro and it's sharp but was curious also about the differences between the 105 EX and the 105 EX DG...

why do you only shoot the 105 wide open?

Very sad story... one for which I am considering acquiring an additionl body at some point:

My 105 EX is EF mount and lacks an aperture ring. It predates the year 2002... in or around that time EF people (Cannon) made many changes to their software and how the camera and body communicate (software). All third party lenses that predate this time, albeit with the proper mount, cannot communicate with the 'modern' DSLRs.

Thus the only way I can use this lens with the EF body I have is by placing a piece of black electrical tape to block the contacts (so that the lens would act as an M42 for example); however, by doing this, there is no way that the aperture can be changed to anything other than wide open. Very, very

I have to say, this is one of the best 100-105's I've ever used. I believe it is nicer and provides better results than the M or A 100/4.... and it goes to 1:1

Thanks - I think some generations here have been exposed to one-too-many MacGyver episodes (the original)
