Nice spiderwort. I have know girls named Rose, Petunia, and Lily, but never anyone named spiderwort.

They are a lovely perennial wildflower of moist midwestern prairies and more easterly meadows, blooming in the early summer. The ones in my picture are this species:

Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiensis)

Pepperberry's might be the same, or another similar-looking species also found in the region.

I collected the seed for mine in a somewhat disturbed vacant lot at the edge of a town, rather than from a natural area. It is a bit of a challenge, since the seed pods, when ripe are sort of explosive. When you touch them, they tend to shatter sending the seeds flying a few feet away in every direction! I scattered a lot more of the seeds than I actually caught in my hand.

Here's my spiderwort. I started two years ago with one gift clump, and have separated it into three clumps. It is easy to grow, and insects and disease seem not to bother it. It displays a very lovely shade of blue.
