M 100mm f4 Macro and K3

---------- Post added 07-01-19 at 03:35 AM ----------

couple of reasons on the M50 Macro - I've never been a fan of the 50mm focal length (I think I have a total right now of 2 50mm lenses), and the M-series just seemed (to me) to be a hold-over until the A-series landed...

so I either have the K-series of a lens, or the A-series...
I perceive that there was a slight diminution of manufacturing quality between each of the series. Although there are probably some exceptions. Hence I prefer the K series over the A and M. I concede though that the convenience of the A setting does make ownership of that series quite compelling. After all, the manufacturing quality is still far in excess of what is generally produced in the modern era, unless one is prepared and able to pay for things like the Ltd series.

40MM DA Limited Sunset

The clouds and colors weren’t as spectacular as I’d hoped for, but the location and my K-3 with Pentax 40MM DA Limited still brought home the beauty. Last sunset in June, Indiana County, in west central Pennsylvania.
Four huge electric generation plants operate in the area, so high tension power lines are almost as common as farms. My home County powers several million homes.

My early forays with the Pentax SMC-M 135mm f/3.5 yielded the above. Looks a bit soft and, to me, it seems to struggle a lot more with darker conditions than I was anticipating, but copes nicely enough with bright ones (except at wide-open, it seems). Believe the above to be around f/4 and the below to be approximately f/5.6. The below is a bit busy, but highlights a bit better how it starts crisping up around f/5.6. It renders colours beautifully, when caught just right. Love the purple in the above.

Sometimes those kinds of reds also are tricky in post, when they're already spot perfect out of the camera, but can be damaged when tweaking around general settings.

Lovely product from the 100/2.8 D FA...

Now I'm curious - what lens(es) did it replace in your stash?
