Yes, on a remote trail, far from any roads. I think the owner was trying to squeeze the last possible mile from it before dumping!

instead being from my local zoo

That rabbit does 'pop' very nicely , courtesy of your photography and the abilities of the Zeiss lens.

A few years ago, I was lucky to pick up a Zeiss catalogue, as I had thought about getting a Carl Zeiss lens...a ZK mount. This was when Zeiss was making ZK mounts.

The Carl Zeiss Distagon T * 35mm F 2 (The Versatile Reporter*) or the Distagon T * 35mm F 1.4 (The Modern Light Artist*) for a general purpose carry around were the ones I was considering.

With your 85mm Carl Zeiss experience so far....what is your assessment of this lens ?

* Zeiss catalogue description

thank you - the Planar 85/1.4 is simply amazing...

I am hoping to be able to use the lens in the Single In Challenge later this year to get a better idea of what she's capable of.....

but initial impressions.... there is such a depth and Art to this lens...

the 85/1.4 is not a close-focusing lens at all, but if you need the sharpness and clarity so you can crop down a shot - you can pull that off....

if you want all the bokeh, character, and richness you can see - you can pull that off, too...

I bought this lens to replace a Rokinon 85/1.4 - which is a really good lens.... but the Planar completely eclipses it...

Wild flower snap from this morning's walk. KP and K 50mm f4. The in built flash and tissue paper diffuser are essential tools!

Thank you for the thorough review. They are beautiful lenses.

I do have one Zeiss lens. It's a Carl Zeiss 105mm Tessar F 3.5 lens...a fixed lens, attached to my Zeiss Super Ikonta 531/2....6 X 6 folder, medium format camera. It has the Compur shutter...top shutter speed of 1/400th of a second. It is a lovely, vintage camera, beautifully made and a joy to put through it's paces....like all things Zeiss.

It was a gift from an American relative.

Remy is really camera-shy, so I don't get shots like this very often:

don't ever plant lemon balm where you don't want it - it will fill a garden bed within a couple of seasons...
