MD Minolta and the K-1

Trying out an MD Minolta, straight from the mind of Minolta, using an adapter with glass in preference to bumping my nose on the screen of one of those mirror-less wonder cameras.

KIT: K-1 with MD Minolta Celtic 135mm f 3.5.

I laughed at this... I've used my Rokkor on M43 and yep I keep looking for a viewfinder and just end up bumping my nose with thescreen!

How are those Celtic line lenses... I've seen a few here and there...

Thanks - I have seen this album before = I looked through your album as I researched before purchasing my Komura... That's quite the coincidence!

Sharpness is something many people will always argue. I try to stay away from stating something is sharp, as there will always be pixel peepers. I'm not one of those, as I know shooting with legacy glass does not achieve that level of sharpness.

EDIT: I should add, I ended up buying the lens, hence your study with your Komura convinced me it was worth it. Good work!

This is my Komura's blades at f22 - I think one of its best features: (16 blades)
Thanks for your kind comments. With that rounded aperture you should get super bokeh when playing around.
Best

Thanks for asking . . . your question inspired me to do an on-line inquiry. Celtic was a Minolta lower line to compete with third-party brands. This URL tells the story: MD*CELTIC LENSES

Thanks for the info!! I wonder how/what a company does (back then) to do a "lower line". I will read on.

Today I understand the use of plastic mounts and cheaper rubber...

Hello !

I used to be a Minolta user in the film era. I still have 6 camera bodies (XE-7, XD-11 and 4 X-700) and 24 MD or MC Rokkors (from an MC 16 mm f/2.8 fisheye to an MD 500 mm f/8 catadioptric plus all the 50 mm's in existence). I just bought a "Fotodiox" adapter with a few glass elements inside to mount Minolta lenses on a K3 or a K1. A project for the Winter ...

Regards

P.S. Manual-focus Rokkors all had a stainless steel mount, they used plastic mounts only on cheap autofocus lenses (Dynax) before the company went bankrupt. Manual-focus Celtics didn't have the same coatings as the main line Rokkors and were more cheaply made.

I believe Minolta never went bankrupt. My understanding is that they sold the photographic part of their business to Sony, and then merged with Konica to become Konica-Minolta in the office equipment market.

Yes they could not keep up with the other major camera companies. Minolta was particularly bad at promoting their products which were excellent and state-of-the-art by the way. They merged with Konica, specialised in Photocopying machines and medical equipment (where the name "Minolta" still exists), then the Photographic branch was bought by Sony.

Minolta were a great brand of camera and optics generally. Still have a 50mm 4.5 enlarging lens (unfortunately no D&P kit any more). Maybe they should have merged with Pentax!
