Likely will be done with the Rikenon XR 50/1.4 after today... It is uninspiring, period. Or maybe I am not made for the Monthly challenge...

My review of the lens... a whooping overall score of 5 out of 10... and it is not a bad lens, but at 50mm, the stakes are too high.

Took the old M50/2 and the (also old) *ist D over to Harbor Village today. It's a small and light combo, almost like a P&S. The grey overcast and 50mm FL were the biggest hurdles for me today, but I was generally happy with the results.

I think if you have gotten this far into the month, your assessment of the lens to your tastes is probably quite accurate. Having said that, I have been doing the challenge with the K 35mm f3.5 and I have struggled despite really liking the lens. It has certainly been worthwhile so far doing it and I will persist to the end of the month. My thoughts on the experience and the lens will be shared then.

I read your review, Ed - I had a couple of uninspiring 50mm lenses completely turn me off the focal length years ago (I've recovered since then)....

Thanks for taking your time to read it (you as well @paulh ) - it was a tough write up. Not that the lens is of "Focal" or "Promaster" quality - it is just that I've handled so many 50's, that I think they must be differentiated the great from the average.

Weird the difference in the XR line, between the 35/2.8 (1st version) and this the 50/1.4

K-1 with an interesting prime lens

K-1 with (adapted) Mamiya-Sekor 645 C 70mm f 2.8 LS. Love using these Mamiya medium format lenses on the K-1. Mostly they are smaller than the corresponding focal lengths in Pentax 645 lenses, though some of them are heavier owing to their all-metal construction.. The Mamiya C lenses are beautifully made metal lenses, tactile delights, and of good to excellent optical quality. This one is a sharp lens built with a lens shutter, not usable as an LS lens except on Mamiya cameras, but still usable on the K-1 as a non-LS lens. Unfortunately, the Mamiya 645 C lenses cannot be adapted for use on Pentax medium format cameras owing to incompatible registry distances, but works well adapted to the K mount cameras. This lens, the 70mm LS, makes an adequate flower lens but not ideal as the MFD is too long to fill the frame with average sized flowers, thus often requiring a bit of cropping though the lens is sharp enough that cropping is not really a problem.
