I am not saying it happens with camera lenses but I have come across one source of fake designer goods.
The real company contracts with a manufacturer to make their stuff.
The official manufacturer produces more than the order quantity, to deal with manufacturing logistics and wastage due to QC rejections.
The contract quantity is supplied.
The left-over production, which is absolutely identical, is then marketed through the fake market channels. After all the producing company must do something to get rid of the stock which would fill up space and any other method actually costs them to break it and dump, so they show up in places like night markets, or designer bag stalls at the wet market.
So in some cases it is not a copy production facility but actually the real thing begin illegally marketed.
