Originally posted by narual That's just ridiculous. There are people asking about equivalent focal length *all the time,* whether it's trying to understand what lens on APS-C will give them a similar experience to some lens they used to use on film, or for newer photographers, what lens on full frame will give them a similar experience to their favorite APS-C lens.
Lenses aren't like that. The fact that you like 70 on FF doesn't mean you'll like 50 on APS-c. You might like 55, you might like 43, it's not an exact science. Sometimes you just like a lens because you like everything else about the lens and the focal length is just peripheral to that.
The problem with it is it's stupid. You are going to tell me what focal length in APS-c compares to a specific focal length in FF. Excellent but why stop there? What focal length is my FF equivalent to in MF. Or what equivalent is my APS-c 50 when convert to a 645. Or even a 4/3 camera. IF they were truly interested in equivalence, they'd do an equivalence table for every camera that focal length lens could possibly be used on.
But they aren't, they are FF companies aiming to move you off APS-c and on to FF. Not Micro 4/3, not a 645z, an FF. And that's all they provide equivalence for. In other worlds, it's not really information, it's a marketing strategy. IN their world, there is FF and APS-c, and that's all they admit exists.
