fast wide prime for full-frame

I don't normally shot wide angle and prefer >50mm, while I am setting up an indoor shot at my home, finding which lenses to use on my 67, 645, and K camera, I realized that Pentax don't have a lot of option for fast wide prime lenses to get those pretty unique wide angle relatively shallow DOF, like 35mm f1.4, and 24mm f1.4 lenses (like CaNikon have), we only have FA 35mm f2, FA 31mm f1.8 and FA* 24mm f2.
The 31mm f1.8 should work out OK for my setting, if it is used on FF.

for APSC, the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 is the best fast lens we can get, am I right?
(I wish I have this lens.... but not covering FF image circle stop me from getting this)

for full-frame, we have Sigma 35mm f1.4 art lens, but Sigma 24mm f1.4 doesn't come in K-mount.

I hope Pentax announce some fast prime for FF with the camera...
(and hope Pentax.... forgoing "small size" for add some speed to some prime lenses!)

I hope so too. Pentax is missing fast lenses in their lineup, and while I understand their philosophy of keeping lenses small, it wouldn't hurt to have some F1.4 lenses other than the 50/55mm, especially as corner-to-corner D FA*'s.

I have the Samyang 35mm f/1.4. Its an absolutely stunning lens, and cheap(ish) to if you don't mind manual focus (it has the "A" functions). its also ginormous.

I love the lens for its ability to go from landscapes...

yeah... I don't mind the added size for the added speed as well...

maybe I am wrong, but the wide angle shallow dof ... also give a different kind of 'look' than long fast lens.

thanks for the samples.. didn't know samyang have a 35mm fit for FF for K-mount.
I tried put on my 31mm, but view is still too narrow on a APSC K5IIs, it would have wide enough, if it is on FF, 35mm will also work on FF. I tried a 67 45mm on my 645n, a little too wide (and, not a fast lens, f4), and don't like the look of it.

If Pentax didn't plan to have fast wide primes, hope Sigma can fill the hole...

Sigma 30 mm f 1.4

Well, there is also the Sigma 30 mm f 1.4 with autofocus. This gets a little wider than the Samyang.

(Not to blow my own horn too much, but I just put one up for sale on the forum in favor of the FA 31 1.8 that I just purchased.)

Yeah, the 30mm Sigma is not FF compatible though.

HOWEVER

Sigma recently announced the FF Sigma 24mm f1.4 ART which will hopefully be available for Pentax. Eventually.

i see...

But under the 24mm f1.4 page, there is no K-mount. if not would be great to have Sigma as option.
I believe the K-mount version took them a lot of time... for the 18-35 f1.8 to come out even they announce it's availability in k-mount when it release. So probably not a very high hope on this 24mm.

Hi LFLee, right now you can get the Sigma 35mm f1.4, the Samyang 35mm and 24mm f1.4, and the world's fastest zoom, the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. There is also the film era FA24 f2.

Happy shooting! :-)

Thanks... I think I mentioned those in my post - I am thinking of moving towards FF so some of those options are out.
AF is pretty important (maybe not so if I have FF, easier to focus manually with bigger VF) so Samyang is out.

FA 24 f2 is nice..... but competitors have 24mm F1.4.

The 'goal' of the post is not so much about what lens to choose for myself (that would be too late ), but hoping we have more native fast primes when Pentax FF come out.

Personally if space is not limited, I usually prefer longer lens, like the 77 and 85 in APSC, 105mm in 67, and the 75mm in 645, I have seen some pretty nice shallow dof images from fast wide prime on FF image circle, so on FF I would like to try them out.

Well, all those lenses are available for you right now.

The release of a FF camera will spur release of later lenses - including fast wide primes - unless it's a sales flop.

Even in Canon and Nikon, APS-C sales drive the companies.

There is also the Sigma 24mm Super Wide II F2.8 which has a very good reputation.
