Personally, I can't tell that they are rendered, not photographed. But I can believe it.

Ultimately, the best way for you to discover these things is to experiment with them yourself. There are differences between the techniques we've discussed, but whether they could work for you is something only you can decide. I'd start with extension tubes, get some flashes and triggers, and do some experimenting. You won't be able to approximate that look without some type of lighting, so getting a lens alone might not help that much.

This kind of experimentation is fun though. It's something to look forward to, not to be intimidated by. No matter what you choose, keep us posted!

Oh, I see. You meant it was designed in CAD by some kind of 3D like rendering, right? I thought you meant CAD software has come up with a new function to process actual photo to render this kind of final product. I now see what you meant.

They do this for all sorts of products these days. Car ads, for example, are often digitally made with some photos for background and landscape and a 3D model of the car added onto it. This way they can control light perfectly, make sure the car is absolutely perfect, no dust, scratches, nothing. People don't inspect ads very closely, so they don't notice small digital imperfections. If you really look at it you can notice that it is "more perfect than reality"
