Fisheye Question!

I have this lens Pentax F 17-28mm Fisheye and having some fun playing with it with my K100D.
Recently I read from some posts that we don't have to really lock on focus using this lens since most of the object will be in focus anyway due to fisheye lens angle of view.

I don't really understand this. Can anybody please explain?
How close is the starting DOF area from the lens? Will it be the same for 17mm or 28 mm just because it's a fisheye?
Is it gonna be the same with 35mm or DSLR?

Perhaps what they were trying to tell you is the depth of field (the area that is in focus) is so large on this lens that almost everything the lens sees will be in focus.

That's not entirely true however, especially if the object of focus is close to the lens.
