Listen up! Sigma 18-35 Art Series owners (and former owners)

I am seriously considering the purchase of this lens. The reports of its superior optical qualities is near universal. BUT - the reports of its autofocus issues are well known. Who here who own or have owned this lens have had issues w/the autofocus on this lens? If I do order it will be from B&H due to their returns policy but I'm trying to gauge the likelihood of having the focus issues IF I do order one of these lenses. Thanks in advance.

In the meantime, you can also check out my folder of nearly 900 pictures I've taken with the lens and see if you think my copy works:

On the recent ones, I don't think I let shake reduction get properly set in many cases. I also used recomposition, which I usually don't do. Both of these were in the interest of not hassling these creative people further--it is *very* hard to walk anywhere around the convention in a great costume....when our friend joined us (she was in costume, we were in street clothes), our travel time for even short distances skyrocketed.

No problems with my copy. I really tried to provoke the problems when I started reading about it. Found no statistical differences compared to other lenses when taking hundreds of pictures on different calibration subjects in different lighting, distances, apertures etc.

What was evident when analyzing all the test photos though, was that the Sigma was sharper than almost anything else...

I really, really, really, like (love is such an overworked word) this lens. I'm a landscape guy and typically shoot at f8, with f4 being 'wide open' for me, and therefore can't comment on my findings with the lens at f1.8. I've found, within the parameters stated above, no focus issues, and the lens has always produced crisp images with great colour. There is no question that, for me, this is a superb lens.

I'd recommend picking up the dock as well. At the very least, the whole thing will let you learn a lot about focusing in a way that you probably never thought of before.
