"Image as Painting"

I quite like the idea of this whole thread - after all doesn't photography mean "painting with light"?

How about pointillisme?

This is the kit lens @55mm f5.6 1/10sec and ISO3200 at low light at the end of the day.

I was deliberately trying to get a grainy image (hence the choice of a high ISO). I needed to adjust exposure by about 3 stops in post process, but that was all I did to it.

2 thumbs up for the reflection shot - really like that one, especially how the reflection's quite painting-like, while the silhouettes of the grass remain sharp

fourmix's autumn leaves shot is quite nicely done as well - reminds me of the effect from the Helios 40, which was featured in one of the Soviet lens thread

Why is it assumed that an unacceptable photographic image will make a good painting?

I don't know if it's 'assumed' that it would make a good painting. I think his thread is about how certain bokeh and even camera shake (and really, even some CA) can bring a 'painterly' effect that is often quite beautiful or interesting, even if that effect was unintentional. It can remind one of impressionistic paintings, for example.
