17-70mm f2.8-4.5 Sigma & DA* 50-135mm f2.8

That's my plan.....it's going to take some saving but can anyone think of a better combination (Note the lenses I already have)? I would sell the kit lens.

I'm guessing the 50-135 would be the primary (stays on the camera 70% of the time) lens. The Sig would do a lot of the indoor close quarters work as well as landscapes. The 50-135 would be perfect (I think) for my daughters dance recitals. Not sure if it will have the range for my kids soccer games but with 10 megapixels I can afford some cropping, plus I always have the 70-300 Sigma if needed. Do these lenses do good macro work?

I love landscapes and macro, while my wife loves people pics. Together we make a halfway decent photographer....lol.

I'd think that they are both excellent lenses. Although I'd suggest the Sigma 18-50 EX Macro over the 17-70. The only reason is you get f/2.8 throughout the range. Where-as the 17-70 the f/2.8 disappears rapidly at about 23mm. The EX is currently $70 Canadian more and compliments the 50-135 very well.

Hmmm......thanks for the info. The extra range on the 17-70 might be handy though.......then again f2.8 throughout would be handy also. What to do, what to do?

Sigma 17-70mm is a very good walkaround lens. I have it together with Pentax 50-200 and I use the Sigma almost exclusively. Sigma's zoom range is just about perfect for my needs.

I vote for the Tamron 17-50/2.8 (see my Throwdown! thread)

Either the Sigma 18-50 or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lenses are great.

If you are getting the 50-135 then why worry about the loss of 20mm on the 17-70? f/2.8 will be of more use under fast or low light conditions.

Because I frequently only carry one lens with me...the one on it.
