A quick K 85 1.8 v's FA77 comparison

I took a couple of shots of a Rose at the community garden today....K 85 1.8

K85 Rose.jpg

then FA77 shot of Rose.... a bit different....but so it goes...manual focus and aperture set on 77 as per 85....f/4 i think.

To my eye....either will do.

Both were just processed how I do things..... not exactly identically.

they are nice but not from the same angle so a little difficult to compare

Maybe I'm becoming to flippant......last thing I'd try to do is a serious attempt at an exact comparison......life is to short to undertake a comparison at the standard required of this forum!

Actually I quite strongly prefer the FA77 image here, but there are many compositional reasons why this may be the case rather than any particular lens quality.
That said, size and AF also score on the FA77's side, so it's a no-brainer to me.

To me the K85 1.8 looks sharper or maybe a little more contrasty and I like the bokeh a little better. Honestly I'm with Sandy in the conclusion - it's close enough either way and AF vs. no-AF makes a huge difference to me.

The FA77 is in my top 5 most used lenses out of a stable of 40, but that is because of its magic with people.

Funny, I just tried rose photos with it for smaller blooms just coming from the buds, and it just didn't get close enough for me. One of the DFA macros will be summoned for that job.

A cheap extension tube does it.......especially if one doesn't have 40 lenses! (I sold my tamron macro)

Personally......I define LBA as double digit lens ownership!

Yes. I will keep my HD DA 35/2.8 macro limited forever, but I find it increasingly hard to justify keeping my DFA100WR....

Easy, the DFA100WR will be very easy to justify once the FF arrives.

That is the only reason I still have it.

You have a very nice collection of glasses that even the venerable DFA100 is in the fight of her life just to be kept in your stable!

Funny, I use the DFA 100 one quite a bit. Roses where I want distance from the bees and close-ups of jewelry where I want out of the way of my softbox near the subject are frequent reasons. Bug photos of all kinds need that extra distance.

I actually ended up using the Voigtländer 40mm Ultron with the dedicated closeup lens. It worked pretty nicely. I have since picked up the DFA 100 from the studio. (I did not set the lens length, so the EXIF reads 500mm from my last manual lens)
