Perhaps the lens in question is faulty & needs returning/exchanging...

My experience with the 55-300 has been very positive, sure it is a little noisy sometimes but it's a consumer lens.
On the IQ I find it quite impressive, sharp at 300mm & very nice colour/contrast rendition, certainly better than both the Tamron/Sigma 70-300s I previously owned

I got my 55-300 a week and a half ago. I'm happy with it. It has a very sensitive focusing system. The focus 'sensor' seems very accurate, but I find as a photographer I have to be accurate at pointing to the item I intend to take a picture of.

The focus sensor reminds me of the old handheld Pentax spot meter...very accurate, but you have to be right on the button of what you are taking a picture of.

If my shots turn out like yours I wouldnt have a issue but mined turns out ,out of focus and its disappointing on the IQ


I tried to change to Av or Tv and even auto but Im stumped

Mine hunts on occasion, and has basically locked up once or twice. Nice IQ though, way better than the Pentax 50-200 or Sigma 70-300 APO.
