Many thanks for that, Dlanor. I've never experimented with this kind of thing - the only items I've ever put in front of my glass are UV, CPL and ND filters. I must try it out! My friends are going to wonder what I'm up to procuring stockings, though!

Me too........ But for whatever reason the older Rikenon 50mm 2.0 without the "XR" or "L" designation seems to me a tiny bit better. Really they are all quite good minus the one designated for this thread. The 50mm "P' version is also top notch and probably the most expensive at about $45 but has the problematic Ricoh pin and many remove it to be safe.
Ricoh Rikenons are largely discounted by name alone and overlooked....... a lot of Sears and Rikenons are the same under various names.
I like the Ricoh lenses also because....well....their name is on my cameras too somewhere and its seems an appropriate fit by Brand.....lol.
