I initially used the FA35 when I started shooting street.
It is sharp and focuses quick.
Might be a better choice than the macro ltd if you like the 35mm focal length. Or the DA35 (non macro - non ltd)

The good thing of the pancakes is that they are really small. You can get your DSLR and 1 lense in each poket or your coat. That's very handy.

As for the effect a lense make on people for sure there a difference between even 18-55 kit lense and a pancake in term of size/forgiveness. The hood too are very small and don't add up to the lense size. Theses lense look like "I'am not really targeting you" or "I don't have the typicall huge lense a DSLR has".

Already DA35 macro or FA77 are bigger once you use a hood.
