Good idea to buy a factory refurbished lens?

Has anyone ever bought a refurbished Sigma lens before & had good luck with it? I'm kinda

Sigma 12 24mm F4 5 5 6 EX DG ASPH Lens for Pentax AF USA Refurbished 200109 | eBay

I'm very interested in this older Sigma lens. Supposedly it's been reworked to function like new. It is fairly cheap. It's about $200 cheaper than the lowest price for a new one that I found on eBay.

Sigma 12 24mm F4 5 5 6 EX DG Aspherical HSM for Pentax U s Authorized Dealer | eBay

It's about $950 at other places like amazon & junk.

It's very tempting, but is it worth the $200 in savings? Hmmmm.........

I bought a refurbished lens directly from the sigma outlet store. It came with a 90 day warranty and worked just fine. It was indistinguishable from new. Shop Lenses | Sigma Corporation of America

That's a good price for a Sigma-refurbished lens with 90 day warranty.

Nothing usually wrong with refurbished kit (so long as it has a warranty, and you test it as soon as you get it). Posting the link to the lens you'd like to buy however, well, I can see a flaw in that plan

For me, it depends on who refurbished the lens. If it's refurbished by Sigma and sold by Sigma with a Sigma warranty, no problem. However, I would hesitate to buy from ebay without knowing for sure who refurbished the lens and if it is backed up by Sigma. In this case, refurbished could also mean that someone return the lens to seller, who simply put it back in a box without doing any real refurbishing...

I would think refurbished by manufacturer is fine. They would bring it up to factory spec.

Haha! Might as well share the wealth, right?

OK! I'll probably get one in a few days then! Looks legit to me.

Grab that one now. National Camera Exchange is reputable seller and a Sigma-refurbished/warrantied lens is excellent-- I've gotten several from the Sigma Outlet and they look and work as good as new.

I don't know how Sigma does their refurbs, but with some manufacturers the refurbs are better than brand new. A new lens gets built and put into a box with minimal testing. A refurb can go through more scrutiny before shipment.

That is true.

I bought a (non-Sigma) lens that always sells for $299 - never seen it on sale. Adorama had a refurb for $250 and it came with a 1-year factory warranty.

as a follow up - yes, it is a good idea to buy a factory-refurbished lens...

I received my refurbed Sigma 18-200mm lens from National Camera yesterday and it is as if I purchased a new lens: all Sigma paperwork, warranty card, etc... and the lens is flawless!
