Hi everyone.

Does this device exist? Not sure if this can converts manual or fa lenses into macro mode? Useful at all?

If anyone has this device, mind sharing some results from it?

Thanks

james,
i've got a set that are ap coupled but not auto. i use them like a K or M lens. i don't use them much since acquiring my 1:1 macro. if i want a 1:3-4 macro with some working distance i'll throw them on my 200f4. works great for Dflies and others of the same size.

Hi Roy

Have you ever tried using them in connection with your macro? Will they give you even more closeup magnification?

You can search for

V2XMFTC

here or at DPR. Its' pretty cool, and yes, you can use it together with a Macro lens and get even more magnification.

Here is an example:

Above with the FA77, with a 50mm lens you get 1:1 magnification.

A macro lens and the V2XMFTC together:

Kenko 25mm Uniplus Tube DG Extension Tube

I put an M42 extension tube on my Yashica 60mm Macro and got more magnification but even less working distance. You could put a teleconverter on a macro lens and get the magnification without needing to get closer to your subject. The Vivitar 2X Macro TC is another possibility.

edit: Jonas posted while I was trying to type.

Roentarre, I use the Kenko that clm mentioned. It is the only extension tube that allows AF and open aperture metering/viewing. Now Af for macro is fairly useless but I often use extension tubes on big teles to get them to focus a few feet closer for smaller critters. There are other extension tubes that have open aperture viewing/metering. You just loose the af.
I use the Kenko a lot on the DFA 100 macro. Guess even 1:1 isn't enough for me. It takes more extension for bigger lenses to get the same effect. Not sure how much good 25mm would be for a 200mm lens. It will make some difference. Tubes or great because you don't loose quality.
thanks

clm and barondla: I was under the impresion that the Kenko tubes says AF but not support AF?? Now it seems as it in fact does work with the AutoFocus. Can you just confirm that this is the case?

thank you,

Thanks barondla. One question, how much IQ do you lose using a TC/macro lens combo? I understand that you lose a fstop with a 1.5X TC and 2 fstops with a 2X TC, but did not realize you also lost IQ. Is it a "significant" loss? In other words, is the loss of IQ equal to or greater than the gain in magnification?

kenko tubes will work up to a point. once the light level falls of to a certain level then you will lose AF. AF is rather useless doing macro at 1:1+. i've posted this before but here's a shot with smc200mm f4 with 63mm exT.
i'd say about 1:3-4

Jonas B, Kenko and others make a lot of extension tubes that say AF. This seems to mean they work on AF lenses, but don't AF. The only Kenko tube that does is the one CLM mentioned. It is called the Kenko UNIPLUS TUBE 25.
It also says Pz-AF on it. This tube does have the cam mechanism to Af. They sell this tube by itself. Not in a 3 tube set. It certainly AFs with my DS and K10D. AF not real useful for 1:2 or more macro. Not the tubes fault - just the way macro works in general. It is great to reduce a 10ft min focus tele down to a 7-8 ft focus range. This converter does everything a lens does. AF, open aperture metering, and open aperture metering. Wish they made it in a 7mm or so and a 50mm (with revolving tripod socket like Nikon does). I would buy both in a second. Do use it on the DFA100 a lot. Heck, I use the bellows a lot too.
thanks

barondla, i stand corrected. i've no experience with the kenkos and just assumed that people were using them in AF.

hey salty, heres another of the series. using the 200mm you get about 30'' of distance.

Thank you Cm, Jonas, Barondla, Roy and NaClH2O.

This kenko adaptor would be quite similar to Pentax F 1.7x teleconverter where it only autofocuses when the subject is near focus??

I see that bhphoto only takes order and it is not that dear 79 US dollars.

This certainly helps and I would love to try it out.

I attempted the extension tube with 200mm macro and it is near impossible. Well, I would need to use tripod to test this out. Sure the photos would be amazing similar to Jonas examples.

Thanks again

James
