A 2540mm f/8 lens is up for sale on ebay for a whopping $33,500. It is way out of my budget but posting it here as someone here might be interested in it.

Similar specifications for 1/10 the cost Meade 12" (f/8) Optical Tube Assembly with ACF Optics and Accessories - 1208-80-00. I think the one I linked can't handle a full 6x7 film image; you'll get heavy vignetting.

The problem with that combo is that it reaches too far to the edges of the universe, and back in time to the beginning of big bang, where there isn't any light.

At the bottom of the add, the seller says "Ask me for tripod and head and for focusing units." So it would seem that those are not included. What has this world come to. The next time I buy a lens on ebay, I'm going to make double sure that the glass is included.

I think I would have to upgrade my tripod... Also not sure about the mount, maybe I could duct tape a length of PVC pipe on the end and glue on a t-mount. I'm sure that would work

It seems to be the day for crazy lenses, B&H have a Canon EF 1200mm f5.6L for sale for only $180,000. Good thing I sold all my Canon gear so I'm not tempted...

Read the review posted for the lens on B&H... I laughed:

not great for macro use

I would rate this lens higher, but i was trying to get a shot of the wedding rings and it would not focus close enough. also i wanted to buy a UV filter to protect the front element, imagine my shock that it would have to be custom ordered!!! works ok hand held, hope they make one soon with VR.

If you put a 2x teleconverter on the Canon lens, it would be slower and shorter than the NASA lens. So just buy the NASA lens, and get a faster and longer lens. You'll save $146,500, plus the cost of the teleconverter.

Sure, it's a used lens, but the money you save could go towards some kind of third-party warranty.
