Now, after plotting all of these in a visual chart, wouldn't it likely spark LBA to fill in those glaring holes?

LOL. Finally there is a thread about this!

I use 30+ lenses across 5 systems. Being a photographer we're a visual bunch. I had to get a chart to illustrate what I collect or what I will be collecting.

I've experimented with vertical and horizontal approach over the years and found vertical approach worked better because some lenses have long names

Like some other folks I have included not only focal length, but aperture, WR and other attributes. I've also used various colors to represent different lens systems

Is there a way to extract usage characteristics (ie, # photos at focal length X) from Lightroom? Usage characteristics are far more useful to me than lens ID, since I pretty much know what I have (and sadly, what I still want...).

Because I'm a bit OCD, I was hoping to come up with some way to keep an inventory of my lenses in a way that goes beyond just my simple Excel spreadsheet. Ideally, I'd like something visual like the official Ricoh/Pentax Lens Roadmap, which shows focal lengths and the lenses on a chart.

Does anyone have a template or something that they'd be willing to share? I'm not very good at computer graphics.

Thank you!!
You inspired me to create excel template which automatically creates roadmap like view from a table containing lenses and focal lenghts.
It does not include images but you can add them in excel. "Insert" tab and select image.

It is possible to insert and delete row to table and the chart updates automatically.

Here is the link for the template.

http://www.elisanet.fi/jyrkira/jakoon/lenschart.xlsx

And this is what it looks like. I added image of FA 31 to my chart.

I still think a plot of AOV vs. FL is far more useful. A 50-200mm f4-5.6 is a much different lens than a 70-200mm f2.8.

I agree a chart with aperture information is more usefull. Maybe I create one some day.

But should everythink be usefull ? I don't have much use for the chart this template creates but making it was just fun.

Thank you, this is an excellent chart. Another way to satisfy my OCD! Appreciate the work you put in and for sharing the document with us.

Agree, now this confirms my weakness in 50-75 FOV. I shall attach this as Exhibit A for approval

I really should proofread my posts. I meant to say AOV vs. Aperture value.

Drypen, what graphing software did you use?

Hi Dan,

I'm just using an Excel, deriving the FOV using the arctan function and focal length, and plotting using scatter graph and line combination. I will try to do an AOV vs aperture later . That sounds more interesting than vs focal length.

I created my version too, which looks a bit like Jyrkira's. It's simple and not as fancy, but I do like how it looks. I color-coded according to WR and third-party. I might make it evolve so more things are automatic, we'll see.

Nice work guys, ok, I will also make one incorporating the aperture, focal length, AOV on APS-C and FF using a selectable template, and easily editable lens database. I'll share it when I'm done. Just give me a couple of days

Maybe, Maybe not.

The chart shows holes yes, and holes need (sublectively) to be filled, but charts also might just show where you already have overkill in one or many focal lengths, and prevent unnecessary multiples.

It depends on how well you control your LBA.
