Lens fell to ground, what now? (16-50/2.8)

I am not too happy with my new tilt shift lens (see attachment).

It fell down from hip level on a concrete floor. Now the frontmost tube part is kinked, and the zoom ring is stuck. The focusing ring still works, the related lenses inside shift well, apparently.

What are my options? Is that something I might be able to fix myself, e.g. by trying to bend / kick it back into its original position, or is it very likely broken to the point where it needs replacement?

I.e, does someone know how this forward tube is constructed, are there photos or tech prints showing how it looks?

Good luck if you try to fix it yourself and you wont be able to buy parts. I would send it back to the factory.

Depending on the extent of the damage it might be cheaper to get the lens fixed than it write it off and replace it, but I would recommend sending it in to a service center to find out.

Ah, the new Pentax Lensbaby line: DA~

What you do now is promptly change your screen name to 'straight shooter.'

Options always involve force before sending it in

Call it a Lomography lens and sell it for twice what you paid for it.

That's a disappointing outcome. When I dropped one of my HG zuikos once, it had no effect on its performance, for many years, I would think the results should be similar with a DA*.

If the AF still works it is possibly just a de-railing of a thread which controls the movement of the two barrels during zooming. Force caused the problem, so I would probably try giving it a bit in return.

That said, my official recommendation is to send it to a service centre

I did exactly the same to my 16-50 about two weeks - dropped it from waist height onto a sloping lawn (so probably not the same impact that yours has suffered). However I had the same skewed end section of the lens. YMMV but I gently straightened it and it popped back into alignment. I have given it a quick test and it seems fine - early days and time will tell if I have any longer term problem. Good luck with yours.

I think it's time to get a professionals involved, before you do further damage fixing it.

I have pushed the tube back straight, but it was already too bent and something broke inside. I've then tried to open the mechanics, starting from the rear, but didn't get further than removing the zoom ring. I don't want to take apart the optical parts, and without a explosion / layout chart I cannot tell where to continue without getting into the wrong spots. So I'll send it in for repairs now.

Attached are a few pictures of my short take-apart.
