Well, for starters it covers a good range that would require at least two zooms or 3 or 4 primes. If you don't mind carrying multiple lenses around then this isn't as much a big deal. Second, it's WR, third it's reasonably lightweight , fourth it's razor sharp in the center Nd very very sharp at the edges when stopped down to F8. And it's built like a brick €<#% house.

I have it: compact, good enough IQ, very nice colours and contrast, very sharp in the center, build like a tank, WR, very convenient zoom range, sharp and good for landscape from 18 to 60 mm when stopped down, good for action and snapshots at longer range.
As good as kit zoom DA 18-55 from 18 to 55, and you get the extra reach without the need to change the lens.
It is my favorite for travel ad holidays.
There are better zooms, like my DA 17-70, very sharp at all FL and across the frame from corner to corner, or the new DA 16-85 WR, but they are bigger, heavier, and much mor expensive, with a more limited telephoto range.

When going on an outdoor outing with the kids or my Beaver Scout Colony this is my main go-to. WR, great quality and a fairly decent zoom range. The only time I wouldn't use it is when the light starts to drop. Then I have to switch to my 17-50 Tamron 2.8 or my 70-200 Tamron 2.8.

Thanks. My worry is Disney I am trying to work it out. There is very limited time to experiment when you get to the front of the line for Anna and Elsa. I don't know if I can get back far enough for my 77. I'm not sure if the 40 pancake is good enough. Last year I used the plastic 35 or 50. I forget. I want to upgrade that photo.

I can carry 2 lenses at Disney plus the 40 pancake.

For a trip like Disney I'd have thought it was a no brainier, you're there to enjoy the show not faff around swapping lenses.

It's a great all around lens - it is well suited to the Magic Kingdom

I returned recently from an overseas business trip. I took my K-5 ii, the 18-135, my F 35-70, and the DA 15 Ltd. When assembling my kit, I was thinking that I would probably use the 35-70 most often (compact; very good IQ; good FL range for my location), but ended up using the 18-135 almost exclusively. I didn't have a lot of free time, but did manage to fit in several 'photo walks'.

I have just fininshed culling the shots and developing the RAW files with Photo Ninja. Guess what? I'm very pleased with the pictures, and once again happy with the 18-135 - a solid '8.5 out of 10' performer.

The "show us what it can do" thread prompted me to buy this lens instead of the DA 20-40 Ltd.

My first trip to Disney with my new Pentax a few years ago, and I took every lens I could think of. Spent all day changing lenses because I never had the right one for what was going on at the time. What a waste of time and $$$. Now, unless I'm going with a specific goal like shooting inside dark rides, I take only the 18-135.

I'm hoping to get the 18-130 now. I'll take the 40 pancake as usual and the magic 77.
