Does anyone have just one lens?

The question of "if you could have only one lens ..." gets asked every so often. I'd like to know if anyone actually has only one lens. They've abandoned their LBA and they use their ILC Pentax body like a fixed lens system. This person has several 10's of thousands of images with their lone lens. They know every strength, weakness, and quirk of this lens. It's just a natural extension of their soul now. This person is so disciplined that they will sell this one lens before moving to another.

Any takers?

I know Canikon users who only have the lens that came with the camera, I'm sure there a Pentax users who have twisted in the same way...

What would be the fun in THAT?

Anything less than admitting to . . . oh, say, three to six dozen? . . . would be an insult to the time and money spent over a half century.

Get real an' ask how many shelves, drawers, cabinets, closets . . .

I am sure there will be quite a lot users only have one lens that came with the kit, but I am also sure most of them are not here in the forum.

Ok, let me loosen the question a bit. How many here have only one lens, not counting the goofy 18-55?

A lens is in many ways like a vehicle. If you find one that does everything you need it to do, you either aren't doing a lot, or the car vehicle isn't doing everything well.

You want the best gas mileage you choose a hybrid or smaller vehicle.
You need to move the kids and their gear to hockey practice it's a van or an SUV.
You need to do work on your home or move stuff around and it's a pickup.
Long distances? A larger sedan.

You certainly can compromise and do okay, but not will do as well.

As someone who lives in a small city on an Island off the West Coast of Canada I can't image Eagle shots with a 50mm.. Conversely, family photo's at 300mm are the best option. And what about those wonderful ocean vista's that require something wide. So this would leave me with something like the DA 18-270mm F3.5-6.3 which per reviews, isn't particularly great at anything.

Only one lens

I have quite a few lens, but if I had to do it with only one lens, I would try it with my 31 limited. I would do it with the 77 ltd except for the inconvenient focal length.

Before my LBA got started, I used only the 18-250 for several years. It is still my "main" lens although I have a gazillion others now....

my girlfriend has the 35 ldt macro... And uses this lens for 98% of her time, she owns a copy of the 18-55 that came with the camera but its some where in the cellar... The 2% she uses another lens is when i force her to use one of my 26 lenses... ☺

One lens for my K-01 (but also a compact zoom camera).

I have just one lens for my K-01. The DA 40mm f2.8 xs kit lens it came with. I use it to shoot my paintings and sculptures in my studio. I have proper lighting, and a tripod. If the painting is big, I move back. There were times I almost couldn't move back far enough, so I tried some slightly wider legacy lenses, but sold them already. Got a bigger studio instead

When I want wide angle shots of an art gallery installation, or macro shots, I use a compact Panasonic LX3 24-60mm, sometimes with a 18.5mm equiv. Panasonic converter which is pretty sharp across. and it suffices well enough for overall views.

So far the two camera set up works well.
No plans to print bigger than 8.5 x 11in. for catalogs.
If I had more play money, I'd get the 15 Ltd, and the d-fa 100mm 2.8 Macro.
Often I wonder if the 35 Ltd(or 35 2.8) would be noticeably better than the 40xs?
I'm happy with the 40xs for now.

So, 6BQ5, yes(for now), I use just one, the 40xs. I don't know all it's strengths and weaknesses, just that it works very well!

I spent my day today with FA*28-70 f2.8. This idea came to my mind twice or three times during the day as this lens is so versatile... I could imagine to use it for (almost... ) everything.
