Can you use the lens hood from the DA 70 on the DA 40?

I have the DA 40mm limited lens. The lens has been a favorite of mine due to its size. While I like the small lens hood, I really dislike the screw on lens cap.

I was wondering if you can take the lens hood from a DA 70mm limited lens and use it on the DA 40mm lens. They both have a 49mm filter size. If it would work, do you have an idea where I could buy the lens hood?

Thanks.

I would say no, as the hood on the 70mm is designed for it's FOV, the 40mm is wider and would probably cause problems with it's FOV with that hood.

I put the hood from my 70-200mm f/4 IS on my 17-85mm (both 67mm threads), and it vignetted like crazy @ 17mm! I know, an extreme example, but I'd think you might have some problems with 40mm vs. 70mm.

I imagine that the hood/cap from the FA43 would work better but perhaps be less effective as it was designed for film angle-of-view coverage. There are probably some decent third-party metal hoods that would work well but finding just which one would work best might be a little tricky especially if you want to fit a lens cap over the end. Replacement hood & cap for FA43 would be pretty simple if not cheap.

Another possibility--stack a few 49mm filter rings (no glass) such that you get some protection but not so many that it vignettes. You can then use a standard 49mm lens cap. Perhaps there is some sort of similar glass-less step-up/step-down ring that might work similarly.

Or, just use the cap from a Fuji film canister. Works like a charm.

I use this hood on my 40mm DA:

B+W BWLHM49 49mm Screw-In Metal Lens Hood #950

Got it from B&H. No vignetting with any filter, including polarizer (Hoya). It's designed for use with a 50mm lens but the 40mm DA is equivalent to 60mm so no problem.

For caps I use this, also from B&H:

Pentax PELC49AF 49mm Snap-On Lens Cap
