One thing to consider about a lens hood is that I got annoyed with the lens cap not staying on. Was afraid I would lose it. I got a 67mm step up ring to replace the hood. Then I got a lens cap that snaps onto the ring. You can also attach a hood though the ring itself seems to be as effective as the provided hood. With this set up I can share filters with my 60-250mm.

Atcoombs, any chance you can post a photo of your set up with the step up ring. I too am concerned about losing the lens cap on the 20-40 and am wondering how you are using the ring and the hood together. I've put on step down rings on several of my FA lenses instead of hoods (credit to Soldbear https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/224537-lens...ml#post2382957), but not sure what you are doing.

Thanks for all the comments. They might not be nice and pointy star burst, but as least it's something. Looking forward to receiving this lens and playing with it.
