Fast wide angle and telephoto lenses

While it's not difficult to find a fast lens in the focal length range between 31mm and 85mm, the choice is much more limited when it comes to wide (or ultra-wide) angle lenses and telephoto lenses.

What (K-mount) lens would you recommend in the range of:
- up to 30mm, f2 or less
- 100 - 200 mm, f 2.5 or less
??

(Both current and legacy to extend the number of possible candidates...)

My "Lady Luck” (SMC Pentax-A* 135mm F1.8) fits the bill as well as the SMC Pentax 200mm F2.5.

I have the Sigma 24mm f1.8 and Samyang 24mm f1.4 (MF) lenses.

Edit: Samyang now do a 135mm f2.

You'd better look well after your Lady Luck as the only one I can find on ebay has price tag USD 2,999.

Seems a bit hefty, they are usually more around the $1800 mark.

The quality A glass kinda got ridiculous after the FF was announced. They all sell for more now, adjusted for inflation, than they sold for new...

That's the first time a Lady could be considered as an increasing financial asset, it's usually the other way round.

I've never used the Vivitar 28mm f2 close focusing, but it gets great reviews.

Keep in mind that for long lenses and fast apertures the front element gets really really big in a hurry.

Remember aperture = focal length / diameter

So 200 F2 is 100mm in diameter

I have the Sigma 24/1.8 and the Sigma 30/1.4. Both very nice. The 24 has the advantages of closer minimum focus distance (by a lot), but the 30 is smaller and has a faster aperture. Either one is quite nice.

Wide and fast is a very rare combination.

Lenses which I found (not a long list...):

1) up to 30mm, f2 or less, FF
- Sigma 20 F1.8 (not the best rating...)
- Samyang 24 F1.4
- Sigma 24 F1.8
- FA* 24 F2
- Sigma 28 F1.8 macro
- CZ 28 F2
- Kiron 28 F2
- Vivitar 28 F2 close focus
- A* 28 F2
- M 28 F2
- K 28 F2

2) 100 - 200 mm, f 2.5 or less, FF
- Soligor 100 F2
- CZ 100 F2
- A* 135 F1.8
- Samyang 135 F2
- K 135 F2.5
- K 200 F2.5

Most of them hard to find these days. Except 2 or 3 these are manual lenses, no AF.
Only the Samyang lenses are still in production if I'm not wrong.

Is there no market for fast lenses anymore?

Except that the K 200/"2.5" may really be an f/2.8 lens. Since FL / f = aperture, a 200/2.5 lens needs 80mm of clear aperture. The K 200/"2.5" has a 77mm filter ring, and, therefore, probably no more than 75mm (or less) clear aperture.

Or, I don't understand the math involved... (quite possible).

In comparison, for the A* 135/1.8, 135 / 1.8 = 75, and the 135/1.8 has a 77mm filter thread, so f/1.8 seems reasonable.

I used to have an A* 200/2.8 and a K 200/2.5 (both gorgeous lenses), and both were quite similar, which is not surprising due to their optical design (at least what their lens diagrams show), although, as I recall, the K had a slightly warmer color rendition than the cooler A* (and their coatings surely differed in color to the eye).

A couple of my "legacy" faves would be the intriguing VS1 135/2.3,.and the sublime K 135/2.5.

[Not included is the Takumar Bayonet 200/"2.5", which, besides being inferior to the K 135/2.5, is also (from the math) actually probably an f/2.8 lens.]

I have the FA*24/2.0 and K135/2.5
Both are excellent lenses at reasonable prices.

I had a Kiron 28/2.0 from my film days, but I sold it on before I learned the joys of older lenses on Pentax DSLR's. I'd like it back

I have no interest in telephotos faster than the ones I have already. They're just too big and/or expensive.
