Carl Zeiss 85/1.4 Is this PK Mount

Hi All,

I bought a Carl Zeiss 85/1.4 T* Lens and just wanted to make sure it is PK Mount.

Here are some of the pictures of the lens.

Do i need to make some changes to use it on my K-50 ?

Thanks

No, that is not Pentax-K. I believe that is Contax/Yashica mount. It cannot be adapted for use on your K-50.

No it isn't. Contax mount. I believe they can be modified to fit K, though. You can also get an adapter, but it will have a piece of glass in it which may degrade the image quality somewhat, although I've heard that is negligible. Leitax sells kits for conversion, but that lens isn't on their list, and it sounds like there is more than one version of the mount (unless I'm mistaken and it is something else completely). You could ask them about it. I do see a couple C/Y adapters available -- don't know if they will fit...

The lens need to be MM see below...

From Leitax: MM lenses can be easily recognized as the smallest aperture on the scale is green.
Zeiss Contax lens for Pentax cameras

I did that with a MM Contax Carl Zeiss 85 1.4 and I'm pretty happy with it..

I forgot about Leitax

As for adapters with corrective optics...results are usually so poor that I hesitate to mention they exist.

You can change the mount on your K-50 to a Multi-mount. But it will no longer be WR...

I've heard at least one person say they've used them with Nikon lenses (an adapter with corrective optic) and the results were surprisingly good, couldn't tell the difference. There may be some good ones out there. A conversion would be much preferable though...shame not to be able to use a great lens like that.

There is one other possible solution:

RioRico used to take a Dremel to C/Y lenses Just shave away a bit of one of the bayonet flags and it will fit on a K-mount

Hi,

Thanks so much the info.

Pentax K+ Multi-Mount (WR version) - Adaptist says they support WR as well.

What are the downsides of this when compared to leitax method ??

Also my lens is not a MM it seems as the smallest aperture value is not in green.

Also along with the 85mm lens i also bought the 2.8/135mm 2.8/35mm and 1.7/50mm lenses.

That's one of the reason why i am inclined to get a multi mount. so that i can use all these lenses without modifying them (unless there is noticeable degradation in quality).

If i need to modify each lens then i have to modify all the four. (i guess if i can modify one i can modify the others easily :-))

Any suggestions reg whether to go with multi mount option or replacing the mount on each lens.

Thanks

The downside is your camera is no longer fully WR. The WR seal on the lens mount is removed to make it compatible with Nikon F mount.

Due to adapting of Nikon F mount, weather sealing at mount area is removed.
WR DSLRs installed with PK+MM(WR) will not be 100% weather resistant.
Please refer to the illustration for explanation.

The upside is you can also use Nikon F and Olympus OM lenses...and it is a one time expense.

Hi,

You can Dremel modify like I did for this : Yashica 50mm f1.4 ML - "RioRico" modification to PK mount Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database

If you cannot bring yourself to this "extreme", then go Leitax ...

Sounds like with the multi-mount you do have to do a bit of dremeling for the C/Y mount (whereas the other mounts just fit). One of these days I'm going to convert the K-01 to multi-mount and unleash a new wave of LBA...

You have to clip off about a mm of the aperture flag.

Hi,

Couple of posts mentioned that even if it get the multi mount i need to cut the mount from my lens . Not sure i understand it.

Is there a detailed description with pics where to cut it and by home many mm ??

Also i didn't find easy to follow instructions on what RioRico did (I am not planning to cut it as he did). But would like to understand what's involved in doing so.

Thanks

The multi-mount guy used to post here, I think. He's the one to ask. Sounds like you need to trim the aperture lever only by 3mm. Non-reversible, but easy enough to do...
