DA12-24 vs DA15 + DA14 + DA21?

Hello, I have the DA14, DA15 and DA21. Just wondering what do people think if it make sense for me

1. Sell all these lenses and buy a DA12-24 to get the flexibility of a high quality zoom
2. Keep these lenses and buy a DA12-24 to get the same benefit as above

Obviously option 1 has the benefit of recovering some of the cost and option 2 is the costliest one.

Opinion please? Thanks

I like primes, so for me I'd go option 2, or maybe option 3. sell one either the 14 or 15 and buy the 12-24

I would say unless you need the close focus ability of the DA14, I would look at possibly selling that and getting the 12-24.

The DA14 is quite large (relatively) compared to the DA15/DA21 but around the same size/weight as the DA12-24, although the zoom is around 2cm longer.

That would still give you the compact/lightweight DA15/DA21 primes then a larger zoom for other work.

Here in the UK a used copy of the DA14 goes for around £250-£300 and the DA12-24 goes for around £300-£350 so not much more.

I only have experience with the DA14 and DA10-17. The DA12-24 is on my LWA Wishlist.

My serious comment here is that ALL of these lenses are quite interesting have different uses. Frankly of the bunch, once I got my DA 12-24, the DA21 became the odd lens out.

I would need to question the need for both a 14 and 15 mm prime. I would consider selling one or the other of the 14 and 15, and get s sigma 10-20 or 8-16

Sell DA14, as you already have DA15 and 1mm doesn't make any difference and buy DA 12-24. It is an awesome lens. It is a must in my bag, wherever I go. I recently acquired DA15, but it cannot replace DA12-24.

Ladybug, can you tell us what you like to shoot?
I personally prefer the prime route as I am a slow, deliberate landscape shooter, but if i were shooting quickly changing objects, such as kids or street, I would opt for the wide zoom to reduce lens changes.
The greatest overlap is your DA14 & DA15.

You already have more lenses than you need. Spend a month comparing the DA15 and DA14 for the same shot every day. Consider corner IQ, flare resistance, chromatic aberration, close focus, bokeh, size and weight, and of course sex appeal

Then if you're really undecided, buy a Sigma 8-16 and repeat the process. Then make a decision. Personally, I'd make do with the 15 and 21.

It feels like the DA 14 and 15 are pretty redundant. I guess I would choose between those based on which you enjoy shooting more. The 12-24 is probably sharper than the 15 and certainly is wider, but more prone to flare as well. Depending on your style of shooting, it may be a good choice.

Ok, the DA14 gets no love here. Personally, from use, these two lenses are quite different. The DA 14 is an f2.8 lens and the DA 15 Limited is f4, this is one difference I find useful, although I usually shoot the DA 14 at higher f-stops. Clearly the DA 15 has that magic pixy dust that makes every image better. However, even though I can make a case that the DA 14 with less blades that the DA 15 and larger size (although I've never found it to be THAT big), I find that I can't quite bring myself to part with it. I prefer it for indoor use and actually for night images too.

The in-depth staff review is also rather lukewarm, IIRC, giving preference to a third-party manual-focus lens! I was seriously considering it as a wide-angle option, mostly because of that f/2.8 aperture, but that review made me have second thoughts.

I would keep the 14 15 and sell the 21. The 14 is great if you want to get into astrophotography. The 15 has mind control powers, so even if i wanted to sell it, it wouldn't let me.

I recommend adding a zoom. Sigma 8-16 or 10-20, or DA12-24. Also consider adding the DA10-17 FishEye.

The DA14 and DA15 are quite different. I bought the DA15 thinking I could avoid the DA14, but then I borrowed a DA14 for a week.
