More DA 55-300mm shots (lots of pics)

I'm happy to say that it looks like the past few days of this lens hunting badly has passed. Today the lens performed very well focusing, but as others have said, it can be abit slow at times and noisy.

All shots were hand held at 300mm from F5.6 through to F11@ ISO 100, except for the last one.

Catching more than one bird.

This Ibis was determined to get some bread.

77.5mm

Next outing i'll try the Tamron 1.4x TC with the lens.

woo hoo ... good to see you have some decent weather to go walking with it ... images look nice and sharp as well. Colours are nice as well.

How much did it cost you landed here in Oz????

Yeah, finally! It was great to see some blue sky for a change.

It was USD$349 +$47 UPS Express from Adorama. It arrived very quick too. Only took 3 days for it to reach Sydney, it arrived on a Sunday and Monday was the public holiday, so it wasn't delivered until Tuesday. I think the conversion worked out to about AU$416.

hmmm ... interesting indeed ... not a bad price for the lens.
Give it time though with this lens .. the more you use it ... the more you will understand it's little nuances.

I notice one or 2 blown highlights with the little boy shot ... but that's due to the bright sun.

You thinking of getting one?

That's true Simon. The first day out with it i thought i had made a mistake getting it, i more happy with it now. As you said there's a few blown highlights, but i was shooting at 1 pm. Next purchase will either be a CPL or a ND filter for it.

LOL!! You know your wallet has a mind of it's own and will prevail in the end, especially when it comes to camera gear. Sorry to say, there's no fighting it, no matter how hard you try.

Glad you're enjoying it - look forward to hearing your thoughts on its use with the TC as I'm currently considering buying one for my own 55-300, a little concerned it may become too slow though

Hi AML see you like this forum it seems like a nice place. And it seems everyone likes the 55-300mm, at least most. And nice pics. But the reason I write is I have always liked the "K10 proud owner" where did you get yours "Samsung GX10 proud Owner"? and how do you feel if I use it? I really like it.

Over-rated insignificance :-) Nice shots. I don't think this lens is any louder than the Sigma 70-300, and since birds are not my main subject, it doesn't matter to me very much.
