Pentax SMC-A 50mm f/2

Just picked up one of these on eBay for $61.00 AU

Anybody else own one and their thoughts on it?

For that price I don't mind experimenting with glass I have never tried before.

I picked one up to learn more about photography and force me to learn the limits and features of my camera. So far I'm liking it quite a bit. I fear it will lead me down the dreaded LBA path....

Anyway hope hope to learn how to use the lens as well as possible before trying to move to a "faster" lens. I've posted a couple pictures from the lens over in the Pet thread:

I think for the price and what I am using it for it is an excellent lens.

It was the "kit" lens that Pentax included with most of there manual focus AE cameras including the K000 from 1985 through 1998. It is a good lens. However, it is the proverbial "red-headed step child" because Pentax built several faster A 50mm lens such as the A 50mm f1.2, the Special50mm A f1.2, A 50mm 1.4, and the a 50mm 1.7. I bought my first Pentax in 1986 (k1000) and it had this lens and I still have it and the body.

I have the same lens, and liked it so much that I also bought the A f/1.4 version, which is a bit heavier and faster.

I had paid about $50 for the A f/2 and $160 for the A f/1.4... huge difference in cost but very marginal difference in quality, but the f/1.4 has the SPEED when you do need it. I dont use it at 1.4 that often, but it is there.

Pictures in my photo gallery were taken with the f/2.0 btw.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I also managed to grab the 50mm f/1.7 as well in manual focus to play around with so I have the 50mm-A f/2 and now the 50mm-M f/1.7.

I grabbed the 50mm-A f/2 for indoor shots and low light stuff mainly.

And for the price well it is wayyyyy cheaper than the equivalent current lenses.

I'll post a few shots when I get a chance to have a play around.
