Pentax 1.4 AF Rear Converter.

Does the new DA teleconverter Support the old F series lenses? IF some functions are limited
, what are they? I tried mine with an F 50mm lens and the camera seemed confused as to aperture
selection at tmes. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

What camera do you have? Since the introduction of the DA teleconverter, and depending on the camera you use, there was an associated firmware that needs to be loaded on the camera before it can recognize the Pentax auto-focus lenses mounted with the converter.

I suppose your firmware is up-to-date, ie. ver 1.2.1. Sorry I only have the DA and FA, bunch of manual K/M/A lenses and the converter, so I don't know if there is special feature missing for F lenses. Hopefully someone with F lens, k-3 and converter combo can help you.

None of the F lenses aren't listed in the Pentax lens compatibility chart for the 1.4 AW converter.

Only F lens I used the converter with was the F* 300 f/4.5 and K-3/K-5, which it worked extremely well with. The focal length (420mm) and corresponding aperture (f/6.7 I believe) was adjusted automatically in camera. AF speed did decrease some, probably due to the 1 stop loss of light, as with any TC. Can't see why it wouldn't work with other F lenses. I would avoid any wide F lenses, which you typically don't use a TC with anyways, since the rear element of the lens and TC may come in contact with each other.

I have a Pentax smcF50 / 1.7 and F Pentax smc 1.7x AF Adapter , when you put that combination of the Pentax K30 camera is required to enroll in one of the following length , as if using mamualni lens , enter 85mm , the camera records the data to use the lens 85 / 2.8 , it works perfectly in all respects,

example :transferred directly from raw to jpeg and been touched nothing

Model: PENTAX K - 30
Date : 2015: 07 : 22 21:16:43
Resolution: 0.0111 ( 1/90 ) sec .
Aperture: f / 2,8
Focal Length : 85 mm
Exposure Compensation: 0 EV
ISO: 100
Flash : flashed

They should work fine and with both AF and AE, as long as they physically fit the converter.

Thanks for all the info. I now believe the problem lies with the F 50, 1.7 lens I was using. Thanks again for the help.

I've been wondering about the stated software updates regarding this TC. What would happen if you don't update your software? I think listed for the k-5II/s is version 1.07. Is it necessary or will it work just fine with version 1.06? They said it's compatible with cameras made in the years 2010 and up.

My F 70-210 worked fine with the 1.4, except for the excessive purple fringing.

Why would you not update to the latest firmware version?

Well, I have a saying, if it ain't broke don't fix. If the TC will function well at 1.06 I would rather retain it. But in case I would buy one, and it won't work well with 1.06 then I have to update to 1.07.

There have been significant speed bumps from updating the software in the past. Usually the first version of the software is, quick and dirty, get it out the door. Later refinements can improve many areas in terms of performance. But as you say, if you're happy with what you're got....
