Just got my first Pentax DA L 55-300mm

Holy cow! What a heck of a lens! And a "kit lens," no less. This thing is sharp as the proverbial tack at every setting I've tried so far. The build quality is excellent.

I'm sure that someone will be along to tell you that it isn't a good lens because they had a bad copy...

I hope it's as good to you as it was to me...

I love mine. I'm in a Nikon shooting phase right now, but that lens holds its own with my best lenses across all brands, at least as far as sharpness. I think it's the best wildlife lens I have in my bag, or on my shelves.

Superb images, Ben! It only goes to support my opinion of this magnificent lens. And yes, there is ALWAYS someone who has a burr under their saddle because of their experience with a bad copy and as a consequence, they will give the lens a miserable review and bring the overall rating down to a level that's totally out of reason as to the TRUE virtues of the lens.

...or because they never had one

Yep, it's a good lens. I'm sure there are better, but none less than twice the size and thrice the price!

Wow. The Flickr page says that shot was taken with a K5 at ISO 6400. What processing did you use?

Just the in camera NR and whatever Aperture did to it. The K-5 was really great at high ISO...

I like the K5II at high ISO, too, and I have gotten some nice action shots at ISO 12,800, but I would not expect detail like those feathers. It is impressive.
