So.... what do you think about this idea?

I've got a boat-load of lenses I no longer need or use. All are good, some are great, some are fantastic. Some are manual, some are "A" lenses and some are auto focus. None are high dollar lenses.... unless you consider a Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm 22XXXX a "high dollar" lens. They vary from 28mm, 50mm, 200mm Pentax primes to Pentax, Vivitar, Osawa, Sigma, Tamron, Promaster, Makinon & Sears zooms. Some of the Pentax zooms are pretty sweet - M-75-150mm, A-70-210, etc. Vivitars a bunch (Most are 77xxxx) , 80-200mm, 70-210mm, 28-200mm, 28-85mm, etc. Sigma-AF 28-80mm 1:2 macro, A-70-300mm, Tamron 28-105mm, 28-200, 28-80, etc.

So.... O.K., to the point. Rather than list each of them on the market place, I'm thinking about filling a 1550 Pelican case full of as many as I can get in them and auction them off, case and all. Is that allowed here on PF.... and if so, what do you think of the idea? Might be fun for all concerned, eh?

I've been sitting here since 7 a.m., photographing and listing lenses and I still haven't made a dent in the hoard of close to 100 lenses! So, I'm wanting to speed things up a bit. Any thoughts?

You must post a price, though you can accept offers. You can not handle it like bidding on Ebay.

Also, it may be harder to sell a collection at one time rather than individually.

I would list them priced individually in one "sell off" thread, and accept reasonable offers on individual lenses - especially if they are not that expensive to start with.

Plus this:

You'd get a lot less than what the total lenses are valued at, or else there's no point for the buyer in such a "lot" of lenses. I also don't think this market would be particuarly good for an auction, you'd be better off sticking to flea bay and posting the link here. Your best bet would be to make a huge thread listing all the lenses and giving pictures of lenses of those who ask for them.

That's not allowed either. You may post a link to your ebay auction but only after your ad in the MarketPlace has been up for seven days.

My recommendation would be to sell them individually. It's not likely you'll find someone interested in the lot- unless it's at a bargain-basement price.

If you sell em as a job lot you'd probly get "mighty" low bid from someone who would then do the work you avoided by selling them individually at a higher price

I have seen ads where several lenses that went together were sold together in the ad; such as a set of manual or 'A' primes (24mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm) or a pair of zooms, such as a 28-70mm and a 70-210mm...

just a thought....

What made you buy those lenses in the first place ?

sounds like the stash is mostly legacy zooms? unless it's something unique, old zooms usually go for chump change on cl and shopgoodwill, so that's the place to start thinning the herd.

the market for old zooms is so weak that i usually just donate 'em to goodwill... if keh won't buy it, it's probably not worth anything, so donate.

the market for old primes is an entirely different matter, especially if you have aspirations for moving to ff.

Get a set of 10 or so lenses at a time that you want to sell. List these lenses in one Marketplace thread, along with the condition of each one and the asking price. Tell people you can provide pictures of the lenses people have any questions about.
