Just curious because I have been eyeing this lens (it is very nice to look at
) but I just don't know when I would use it.
The 18-135 use to be my all purpose lens and I could have used it for the picnic but the 20-40 was already mounted. The 18-135mm now only gets used when I am not sure of the weather or I might want the additional reach. These are my only WR lens I have. Three times when I went to my granddaughter's rugby games it was raining fairly hard and I used the 18-135. When we went to Yellowstone the 18-135 stayed on the camera because of the weather, wind. We were in a sidecar rig, so no place to change lens out of the weather. I didn't have the 20-40 at that time, but even I did have it the 18-135 would have been on the camera.
The 20-40 gives better quality photos, is a little faster, and the broka is much better. Some times when I am not sure what focal length I want to use I will mount the 18-135 to find what I like, probably take a photo with it, but then mount a prime lens if I have one that fits. If a longer length is required, I have the 70-200.
Before Pentax I used a Canon 5D and my favorite lens for landscape was the 24-70 at about 24mm or 70-200 at about 150mm, and the Pentax 20-40 gives me something fairly close the focal length I used with the Canon.
I don't know if I answered your question, I tend to ramble on sometimes.
