I never thought I'd fll in love with a lens and was hesitant buying the 16-85. The range convinced me, simply because I need a one-lens solution when travelling on business and I tend to stay away from anything that can be called "superzoom" (yes, that includes the 18-135). Once I got it, the sharpness, corner to corner, surprised me. It's reasonably flare-resistant and focuses fast. I'd guess it's on my K-70 60% of the time at least.

newmikey, there is something special about this photo. Not sure how to explain that but I what I am thinking about is a high contrast between your very well known best friend in the foregraound, and secret mist in the background. Congratulations, I love this picture.

Was walking on some trails in Austin Texas and found the weirdest ice formation I've ever seen. One weed was affected by the cold in such a way that sap broke out through the bark just above the ground and sap extruded into the air in a manner so as to create what looked like nothing so much as feathers. These were everywhere along the nature trail I was hiking.

There's a certain irony in traveling from Newfoundland Canda in the winter to Austin Texas to find new forms of ice you've never seen.

A different perspective

I was playing with some photo processing apps on my iPad and looking at this picture, taken with my DA 16-85mm WR on my K-3ii, when the phone rang. I got up to answer it and came back into the room from the opposite direction and saw the picture on the iPad upside down. I think I like it better than the original!

What a terrific, inspiring thread. Good thing too, because I just bought this lens today. After Christmas I bought the KP, my first new camera body in 8 years (a companion for the K-5 which I am keeping). It's probably been 6 years since I've bought a lens and I really needed a wide angle zoom. I have a 16-50 which is decentred and such a heavy beast that I never use it. I debated the DA 18-135 which I had a chance to borrow from a friend when I was in Sydney last year and, for a day at the harbour, it was good but I was not blown away (which was probably partly due to me not the lens). However after looking at all the reviews I decided to go a little higher and get this one.

Hopefully it will be warm enough to get out with it tomorrow and I'm very excited about taking this new combo to Kolkata next month.

Thanks for all the inspiring images. I'm feeling a little less guilty for my splurge.
