This takes pixel peeping to a new level of madness: "Look at those vast resolution differences @800%"

Well, the point of my original post was that it took that kind of pixel peeping to see the difference, and then I tried to demonstrate it in the second post by showing a 4:1 enlargement of edge areas (and in the center it was difficult to see any differences). Overall my aim was to bestow high praise on the 16-85, which I think it deserves.

Cute little model of a car that's far more statement than transportation.

I'm really enjoying my DA 16-85, it captures some stunning images and remains nice and versatile.

Some pictures from a stroll in the Roma Street Parklands, Brisbane:

(no CPL filter used to capture that beautiful bit of blue sky!)

(compared to a similar shot with a DFA 100mm WR - IMGP0320.jpg)

Stunning lens, very happy with it (though it I needed to return my first copy as I wasn't happy with it).

I've been waiting for some sun here (been raining) so I could do a quick test pitting the 16-85 against my two Zeiss ZK primes at 35mm and 85mm. I threw in as well (the last picture) a shot at 85mm with the Pentax 60-250. I like to test lenses at this spot because of all the detail. I didn't provide crops, so I will leave close inspection to those interested, and share my impressions at the end of the post. All shots taken at F8, ISO 100 on a tripod.

Zeiss 35mm:

Pentax 16-85 @35:

Zeiss 85mm:

Pentax 16-85 @85:

Pentax 60-250 @85:

To me both Zeiss lenses resolved better overall, always winning the edges, but otherwise the 16-85 was very close. A bit of a surprise was finding the 16-85 seemed to beat out the 60-250 at 85mm. All in all, an impressive performance for a lightweight, affordable, zoom lens that covers such practical focal lengths.
As a fellow Zeiss 35 and Pentax 60-250 owner, I really appreciate these comparisons. Thank you Les.

Great artistic quality.

By the way, which two lenses do you have (mentioned in your signature)?

Assume this question is aimed at me(forgive me if it's not!)
In addition to this lens (ie 16-85) I have the HD 55-300 WR.
