This was the first time I had pulled the 16-85 out of my camera bag since I got it back from repair....too busy with my fisheye I guess. As much my 18-55 WR is a stellar lens, the 16-85 is just notch above.

Today I had a dentist appointment and I always arrive early because I never know what the traffic is going to be like. I took my new 16-85 lens with the KP to try it out. This is the first time I've used it, and the day was overcast so very flat lighting. My initial thought is that the lens is going to make a good walk-about lens for me, but I'm going to have to use it a lot more to become friends with it (pretty normal for me, and some equipment I never become friends with). It's sharp, a lot sharper than what I remember my 18-55 kit lens was like (gone a long time ago), but I'm not sure it's as sharp as my 28-105 - need to shoot under more varied conditions to tell for sure.

Anyway, here are the ones I liked the best. I thought they were reasonable for a first time out, and shooting a subject I would have otherwise used a 100mm macro lens for.

These are just quick snaps taken as I wandered around for about an hour before seeing the dentist - I didn't see much that really grabbed my attention. I'm feeling unsure of the combination at the moment. I certainly don't hate it, and I don't think it has any issues, at least none that I noticed today. I need to work harder at finding things to shoot.

I think those are fine shots, and fine subjects, all of which show that the lens is a good one, IMO. OF course, it all depends on lighting, and a steady hold depending on shutter speed. In any case, I think you have a lot of good subjects at hand here, maybe you just need to think of different angles to shoot from, or different compositional ideas?

If I wasn't purchasing a K-1 soon, I would buy a DA 16-85, it seems like a great "walk around lens" that is a step up on IQ from my go-to 18-135mm
