I took the 16-85mm to a very disappointing Segovia balloon festival a few weeks back. A very slight breeze and a heat-wave made flying more difficult (or more expensive?) so there were very few balloons and so no images of a good number of them flying over the city in the morning light.

Pictures taken with either the DA* 50-135 mm f/2.8 ED (upper) or the new HD DA 16-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 ED (lower) are indistinguishable at 50 mm FL and f/11.

Finally got around to trying something I'd had on my to-do list for a while. I reversed my 16-85 on my KP. Magnification available in reversed configuration is 1.5x at 85mm to 4.5x at 16mm.Here are uncropped shots of the millimeter scale on a ruler at each end.

Used in conjunction with a de-glassed Fotodiox PK-Nikon F adapter with aperture control, I can open or close the lens's diaphragm despite the lack of aperture ring. In real world, handheld, outdoor shooting it's really tricky to use at 4.5x. My keeper rate improved (somewhat) by turning to a longer focal length setting. I'll probably try it some more, but it's not as user friendly as my reversed 18-55 II.
