Da* 55 infinity performance

Hi all,

Contemplating "normal" options for upcoming FF camera, and am curious if anyone can comment on the infinity performance of the Da*55 (either on APS-C Pentax cameras or adapted on FF cameras from other manufacturers). I've seen some comments that this was designed as a portrait lens, and as such is optimized for performing best at relatively short working distances, but lags behind in IQ closer to infinity. Can anyone comment on infinity sharpness, or even better, share any examples?

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

Hi, if you are never see my review of this lens, it is here (many pictures inside). For me, *55 is OK for panorama, street photo and etc... Sorry, text is in Bulgarian, but pictures are in universal language :-)

I have no problems using the 55 for landscapes and it does pretty well in all situations I have put it through.

As Vincent has shown, it's a superb landscape lens. If only I were a better landscape photographer.

Portrait distance is probably 1.5 m and infinity is rather close looking on the extension of the focus tube. Performance at 1:1 to 1:10 compared to 1:infinity may reveal differences in sharpness and distortion, but this is an issue you will find in macro lenses.

Over the past couple of years I've experimented with about 15 lenses to find which ones are suited to Astrophotography (with the O-GPS1), and although I don't have any stunning shots (yet!) with the DA*55 it is certainly one of the better performers. Here's some early attempts:

If it wasn't a good performer at infinity it wouldn't work for Astro stuff

So clearly the overall message here is one of reassurance. Thanks all!
