need assistance with 35-105 f3.5

good day....
i'm sure this has been asked and posted before........ but....
i've got the pentax smc a 35-105 lens, and would like to
use with my k200d....
could someone assist me, simply, with how to use this lens..
i know that as an 'a' lens, my camera has the electric contacts
to work with the lens....
besides the manual focus aspect of this lens.... how do i configure
the k200d so that a manual focus lens neophyte can actually
use this great lens... and then after said configuration, how to
use the lens.................
thanks in advance for your consideration and help....

I really can't see what's so hard, but here goes.

Set the aperture ring to the "A" position.

when the camera is in any AE modes (P, Av, Tv, scene modes), it allows you to change aperture/shutter speed from the e-dial.

Set your Shake Reduction value to the minimum focal length of the lens (35 mm in your case)

Change the focus selector on your body to Manual.

Focus manually, depress the shutter button fully.

Have fun.

That should be a pretty straight forward task with a beloved pentax!

1) Mount the lens,
2) Set the lens in "A" mode on the aperture ring
3) Turn on camera, choose a Shake reduction focal length (or don't use shake reduction unless you wanna change the shake reduction focal length every time you zoom, or set it to 35mm(at least it will still reduce SOME shake, even at 105mm))
4) Set the camera to MF on the front dial, or keep it in AF-S to use Trap focus (you can hold the shutter and focus and it will take a picture when it figures focus is correct)
5) Manually focus your lens
6A) Click the shutter.
6B) Boom great images will show up on your lcd display.
6C)Import photos to your computer, upload to the internet, post a thread in "Post your photos"-section of the forum, instant report!

Edit: Damn, used to long time on my post, so i got beat to it..

Hi dcmsox, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on a great! lens purchase. The A 35-105 is one of my favorite lenses. It's really easy to use on your K200. Everyone else has pretty much explained all of it, so I won't do a rehash. You will like the lens tho, and other than manual focus, you can use it just like you use all of your other "auto" lenses. Here is a link to a gallery I made just after I got mine.

Regarding setting the focus to Manual on the camera: Not necessary. If you set it to AF, you can use trap-focus, which comes in handy very often, especially on macro shots. With trap-focus, the camera won't fire unless the image is in focus, although I think you have to change a setting in the custom menu for this. This setting doesn't apply when the camera is set to Manual focus, though.
