Q:sigma 10-20 vs. pentax 12-24

i was going to buy a wide angle lens for my K10, I wanted to wait for tamron 10-24,but i can“t wait till winter. So i have to choose between sigma 10-20 and pentax 12-24. The pentax lens is said to be much better then the sigma“s, but 1. the sigma is cheaper and 2.it has got 10 on the wide end..and there is my question- is that a big difference from 12 on the pentax lens? Does anyone have pictures shown the differnec between focal length 10 and 12 mm? Thanx guys in advance

Why don't you try Pentax 10-17 Fisheye ? According to some reviews on Net, it is a very good lense

quick and dirty

OK,
I have just read this post and so here is quick and dirty comparison. Both shots made with Sigma 10-20 on K100D 1.5mpx ** quality no PP. First is 10 and second 12 mm. Taken from the same spot but handheld. I know it's nothing scientific, but it gives you an idea.
PS: dakovat nemusis

As you can see the difference between 10 and 12 can be significant. There are a few threads on these two lenses as well as reviews on each of these lenses.

Pentax Lens Review Database - 12-24mm F4 ED AL [IF]

PentaxForums.com Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM (AF Lens)

I used to own the DA 12-24 found it very sharp . I sold it and have since purhcased another one. Depending on your needs I think both are fine lenses with opinions on each side as to what is better (or does the Pentax one justify the extra cost).

Best of luck

I have owned the Sigma 10-20 lens when I used Canon and now have the 12-24 Pentax. The Sigma is a very fine lens and quite capable of excellent results. If you want good edge sharpness just stop down 1 to 2 stops, as with pretty well all extreme zoom lenses. I used the Sigma for pro apps as well as the Pentax...

A few shots from the DA 12-24 on K10D are on my Flickr site, which is devoted to showing my experiments with the K10D and assorted Pentax lenses.

Only to look through, and saw vignetting at the wide end in the viewfinder. I think it is definitely a dSLR lens. Maybe I should put it on my (now the wife's) MZ-S and see what the images look like.

The Sigma is in no regard an inferior lens. The only drawback, compared to the Pentax not being any IQ problems, but the one f-stop less (f5.6) full aperture on the long end. Nevertheless "fast" is a thing, that need not be applied to such extreme wide angles. The Sigma in terms of sharpness and contrast compares favourable to my old Pentax 15mm, when stepped down. I usually use it a f8 or f11 and then its fine right into the corners. What always astonishes me is how robust it is against flaring - really good.

The Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX AF 11-16mm f/2.8 would be my choice if only they made it in the Pentax mount. Besides that I can't comment on the rest since I haven't used them.

I owned the Pentax for a short time, but sold it because of too much Chromatic Aberation and -because of that- reduced sharpness at the border.
Now I'm expecting my Sigma 10-20, which when I tried, found with much less CA and very good IQ.
